STANDARD Horizontal Form Fill and Seal (HFFS) machine

These machines use heat sealable printed laminated roll stock for making filled pouches in different formats; four side sealed, bottom gusseted or stand-up. These may be with tear notches, zippers or spouts. The use of economical roll stock eliminates the need to purchase expensive preformed pouches. These are horizontal linear machines, of modular design, which comprise independent sections, each placed on the machine frame as follows:

It holds the laminate roll, folds the laminate and feeds the same, in folded form, to the subsequent section.

Here, the folded laminate is sealed from bottom as well as sides and cut to the set width. Thus, the laminate is converted into a pouch open from its top

This section has a pair of fixed beams as well as a pair of walking beams. The fixed beams hold the pouch while it undergoes different operations, primarily, for filling and sealing. The walking beams carry the pouch to the successive stations.

These are housed in a panel. All the operations and drives are controlled through a PLC and all the parameters are set / monitored through the HMI. All the heaters are also controlled by the PLC through solid state relays with display on the HMI. All the alarms are also displayed on the HMI.

Machine Features...

  • Straight Horizontal Flow

The straight horizontal flow through design of the HFFS machine allows the operator to see all stations, at a glance, from the operator side.

  • Simplex or Duplex

Depending upon pouch width, the HFFS machine can make pouches in simplex or duplex operation. In case of duplex operation, one can have perforations between the two pouches.

  • Pouch Size (width)

In the HFFS machine, one can change the pouch size (width), in the given range of the machine specification, simply, by changing the machine settings.

  • centre / corner spouts, re-closable zippers or slots / rounds

With special attachments, the HFFS machine can also be used for making packed pouches with centre / corner spouts, re-closable zippers or slots / rounds for hanging the pouches.

  • Prevents Contamination of The Seal Area

The HFFS machine prevents contamination of the seal area as the filler enters inside the open pouch before dispensing the product.

  • Machine interlocks

Machine interlocks, such as “no bag no fill” and “no bag open no fill”, are provided to avoid wastage and downtime for cleaning. The operator is signaled when the interlocks are actuated and at the end of the roll.

  • Data Storage

Facility for data storage and downloading to PC, for production statistics, is provided.

  • Feeding Preformed Pouches.

The unwinder and bag forming sections may be replaced with a conveyor for feeding preformed pouches. A pick and place mechanism lifts one pouch at a time, and hands it over to the walking beam which moves it onward for opening, filling, closing and sealing. The machine is modular in construction for use in either a pick fill and seal or a form fill and seal mode

  • Additional Filler

The HFFS machine can have provision for the installation of an additional filler for achieving higher production or for packing products constituted of a mixture of two or more ingredients to be dispensed separately.

  • Seal Cooling Stations

Vertical and top sealing stations are followed by respective seal cooling stations for better seal quality.

  • Even Heating and Pressure

Opening/closing movement of each pair of heat sealing jaws is parallel and not scissor type. This ensures even heating and pressure across the full seal length.

  • Toggle Arrangement

The provision of toggle arrangement in the movement of sealing jaws helps in adjusting and ensuring uniform seal pressure at all times.

  • Pouch transport

    a) This is carried out, successively, by two pairs of beams; fixed and walking..

    b) In both cases, as the beams close and open, the pouch is, respectively, held and released by grippers on the beams.

    c) Only the walking beams have back and forth reciprocal motion in the machine direction.

    d) The pouch is moved away from the cutter,by the walking beams, to subsequent stations.

    e) At each station, the pouch is held by the fixed beams to carry out the following sequential operations; pouch opening, filling, closing and sealing.
